Research Participants in Thailand

Verified Thai professionals and consumers for interviews, surveys and concept tests. Fielded in Thai, reaching past Bangkok, with a methodology built for how Thai respondents actually give feedback.

Why teams are researching Thailand now

Thailand is the second largest economy in Southeast Asia and one of the most socially commercial markets anywhere, with a great deal of discovery and actual purchasing happening inside chat and social apps rather than on a conventional website. It is also a serious industrial market, with deep automotive manufacturing, food production and export, tourism, and a healthcare sector that serves patients from well beyond its own borders.

Bangkok is not Thailand

This is the single most common sampling error in Thai research. A sample drawn from Bangkok convenience and labelled "Thailand" will overstate adoption, overstate willingness to pay, and understate price sensitivity.

Two different consumers

Income, category familiarity and brand expectations diverge sharply between the capital and the provinces.

Facility recruiting skews it

Central-location fieldwork recruits whoever can travel to a Bangkok venue on a weekday, a narrow and self-selecting group.

Remote fixes it

Studies that run on a phone remove the travel constraint, so provincial participation becomes a quota rather than a logistics problem.

Quota it deliberately

We set the Bangkok and non-Bangkok split with you up front, so the geography of your sample is a decision rather than an accident.

Thai, and why the script breaks things

Thai is written without spaces between words, and that one fact causes more practical trouble than anything else in a Thai study. Survey tools truncate in the wrong place, line breaks land mid-word, and machine translation can look fine to a non-reader while being wrong to a native speaker. Any Thai instrument needs a native reader to check it after it is built, not only before.

English is not a safe default here. Professional English proficiency is lower than in neighbouring markets, so fielding in English does not lose a few responses, it reshapes who answers at all into a narrow, urban group. Voice answers are transcribed and translated for your reporting.

How we recruit in Thailand

We hold some Thai participants already and recruit to order on top of that for most briefs. Profiles we recruit for include:

Medical doctors & pharmacists Nurses & allied health Automotive & manufacturing engineers Mechanical & electrical engineers Hospitality & tourism professionals Food production & export Finance & accounting professionals IT & software professionals Business owners & founders Educators Consumers by category & demographic

We run dedicated recruitment for healthcare, engineering and finance and accounting audiences across every market we cover. If your brief sits outside these, tell us and we will say plainly whether it is reachable.

1

Define the audience precisely. Role or consumer profile, region, category behaviour, and the Bangkok to provincial split, agreed before outreach starts.

2

Direct, targeted outreach. We go and find people who match, which is what makes non-Bangkok and specialist audiences reachable at all.

3

Verification. Identity, current role and employer confirmed at sign-up, so the job title is real rather than self-reported.

4

Custom screener and local incentives. Must-have criteria and disqualifiers before anyone enters, then payment Thai participants can actually redeem. Foreign gift cards are not an incentive, they are an obstacle.

Kreng jai, and designing around it

Thai social behaviour includes a strong reluctance to contradict or embarrass another person, often described as kreng jai. In research it produces something specific and expensive: polite agreement that is not agreement. Participants will say a concept is good, say they would buy it, then not buy it, because telling you otherwise would be impolite.

We design against it directly, asking what people did rather than what they think, framing questions in the third person, testing concepts as forced choices rather than approval ratings, and running much of the work asynchronously because a screen asks for less politeness than a person does. If a Thai study comes back with almost everything rated positively, that is not a strong concept, it is a badly designed instrument.

Frequently asked questions

Both professionals and consumers. On the professional side that includes healthcare roles such as doctors, pharmacists and nurses, engineering roles across automotive, manufacturing, mechanical and electrical, plus hospitality, food production, finance, IT, education and business owners. Consumer samples are recruited by category behaviour and demographics.
Yes, and we would push you to. Studies run on a phone rather than in a central venue, so provincial participation is a quota you set rather than a logistics problem. Bangkok-only samples systematically overstate adoption and willingness to pay, so we agree the regional split with you before fieldwork starts.
Thai for almost everything. Professional English proficiency is lower than in neighbouring markets, so an English instrument does not lose a few responses, it changes who answers into a narrow urban group. We offer English only where the audience genuinely works in it day to day.
By not asking for approval. We use behaviour questions rather than opinion questions, third-person framing, and forced choices between concepts instead of rating scales. We also run a good share of the work asynchronously, because participants are consistently more candid to a screen than to a moderator sitting opposite them.
In the browser on a phone or desktop, by text or by voice, with voice responses transcribed. LINE is the dominant messaging app in Thailand rather than WhatsApp, so we field on the web by default rather than assuming a channel that does not fit the market.
